Weekly Colombian Player Rankings | August 20–26, 2025
Another week of football has wrapped up, and once again Colombian players across the globe have been making their mark. In this edition of our Weekly Colombian Player Rankings (August 20–26), we take a look at who stood out the most during a packed week full of action. From Bundesliga debuts to decisive goals and assists in Europe, Brazil, and beyond, our Cafeteros were everywhere — and truthfully, there were so many good performances that narrowing it down to just ten was no easy task.
This week’s rankings highlight those who rose above the rest — whether it was Luis Díaz lighting up Germany, Dávinson Sánchez anchoring Galatasaray, or young names like Emerson Batalla and Pedro Bravo making strong cases for the future. And as always, we’ll also shine a light on players just outside the top 10 in our Honorable Mentions, because the Colombian presence continues to be felt far and wide every weekend.

10. Kevin Mier

Looking very much like Colombia’s number one goalkeeper right now, Mier had a steady week with Cruz Azul. He picked up his first clean sheet in a while during their 1-0 home win over Toluca. Although Cruz Azul dominated possession and chances, limiting what he had to do, Mier still delivered when called upon, making one important save. It wasn’t the busiest performance of his career, but seeing him back with a clean sheet is exactly the confidence boost both he and the Selección need.
9. Richard Ríos

Ríos seems to be loving life in Portugal. After already lifting a trophy and impressing early on, this week was no exception. He played in two important matches for Benfica. The first was in the first leg of the final qualification round for the Champions League, where Benfica drew 0-0 away against Fenerbahçe. Ríos had a solid game, recording four tackles, winning 50% of his duels, and completing 82% of his passes — a decent result away from home.
In the second match, Ríos absolutely ran the midfield in Benfica’s 3-0 home win over Tondela. He finished with 92% pass accuracy, one key pass, completed all four of his dribbles, won 12 of 17 duels, and added five tackles. A dominant display from start to finish, showing exactly why he’s quickly becoming a key figure in Portugal. Hopefully, he can carry this same form into Colombia’s upcoming matches.
8. Wilmar Barrios

A former Selección Colombia hero, Barrios may not be in the national team picture these days, but his performances for Zenit continue to show his quality. Wearing the captain’s armband this week, he produced a strong outing in Zenit’s 4-0 win over Dinamo Makhachkala. Barrios recorded an assist, completed 83% of his passes, made three tackles, and won five of his eight duels. He remains a steady, reliable presence in midfield, and with Néstor Lorenzo still experimenting with options, you’d hope performances like this don’t go unnoticed.
7. Yerry Mina

Despite his injury history, Yerry Mina proved this week that he can still play at the top level. He was key in Cagliari’s 1-1 home draw against Fiorentina, a strong side projected to finish in the top half of Serie A. Mina was rock solid defensively, recording two tackles, winning 80% of his duels, and completing 91% of his passes with one key pass. If he stays fit, Cagliari will heavily rely on him to avoid relegation. And when healthy, Mina always makes himself an asset to the Selección.
6. Emerson Batalla

He may not be a household name yet, but Emerson Batalla continues to build his reputation in Brazil with Juventude. Still just 24 years old, he’s already had stints in Argentina and now Brazil, and this week he put in two strong performances. In Juventude’s 2-0 win over Vasco da Gama, Batalla played 57 minutes and produced an assist. Though he wasn’t on the ball much, he made the most of his touches, completing one of two dribbles and winning half of his duels.
Later in the week, despite Juventude falling 3-1 at home to Botafogo, Batalla scored his team’s only goal and added a key pass. He also completed his lone dribble in the match. With four goals and two assists in 19 league appearances this season (15 as a starter), Batalla is showing he can be a difference-maker. If he keeps this up, a Colombia call-up could be on the horizon.
5. Jhon Córdoba
One of the men vying for Colombia’s No. 9 spot showed his quality again this week. Córdoba bagged a brace in Krasnodar’s 6-0 away win over Krylya Sovetov in the Russian league and played his 350th game in Europe. It was a complete striker’s performance, not only scoring but also contributing with hold-up play, winning 50% of his duels, and completing one of two dribbles. He even could have had a hat trick but missed a big chance. With several strikers pushing for the Selección’s starting role, Córdoba will need to keep delivering performances like this to stay in contention.
4. Dávinson Sánchez

Mr. Consistent. Once again, Sánchez showed why he’s been Galatasaray’s defensive rock for multiple seasons now. In their 4-0 away win over Kayserispor, he helped secure his third clean sheet in a row to start the season. He was completely dominant, winning 75% of his duels and completing 95% of his passes (65 in total). Week in, week out, Sánchez continues to demonstrate his class.
3. Luis Suárez

Another player retaining his top-three spot from last week, Luis Suárez continues to make Sporting Lisbon fans forget about Viktor Gyökeres. While not as explosive as his two-goal outing the week prior, Suárez still had a strong showing in their 4-1 away win, providing two assists. He could have even scored himself but missed a few big chances. Still, he now sits at two goals and two assists in just two league games — a phenomenal start in Portugal. If he can sustain this, Suárez could build a legacy even greater than Gyökeres and cement his place with the Selección.

2. Daniel Muñoz
Daniel Muñoz retains his top-10 spot this week with two standout performances for Crystal Palace. First, he played in the Conference League playoff round, where Palace secured a crucial 1-0 home win against Fredrikstad FK (Norway). Muñoz defended well, made two key passes, and nearly scored with a shot that rattled the woodwork.
He then followed it up with a strong performance in the Premier League, helping Palace earn a 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest. Against much tougher opposition, Muñoz delivered once again, providing the assist for Ismaïla Sarr’s goal. Considering Palace’s difficult fixture list to start the season, Muñoz has been invaluable, showing he’s capable of performing at the highest level.
1. Luis Díaz — Cafetero of the Week
Lucho maintains his top-three spot from last week but earns our Cafetero of the Week award after a sensational Bundesliga debut for Bayern Munich. Coming off his first goal and trophy last week, Díaz raised the bar even higher. In Bayern’s 6-0 demolition of RB Leipzig, he was directly involved in three goals: scoring once himself and providing two assists for Harry Kane — a partnership already looking lethal.
Beyond the goals, Díaz created the most chances in the match (four), completed four of six dribbles, and won the majority of his duels. It may be early in the season, but Díaz is already showing he’s worth every penny of his transfer fee. What a way to kick off life in the Bundesliga — a sign of many more things to come. Now, let’s see if Bayern can carry this momentum into the Champions League.
Honorable Mentions
Jhon Durán
Durán featured in two matches this week for José Mourinho’s Fenerbahçe. The first came in a 0-0 draw at home against Benfica, where he played 67 minutes. While he put in a decent shift, he couldn’t quite be the decisive factor. His second appearance came in a 3-1 win over Kocaelispor, where he provided an assist. Overall, he’s been getting valuable minutes under Mourinho and is already contributing with goal involvements early in the season.
Andrés Gómez
Andrés Gómez made his debut for Vasco da Gama this week in their 3-2 home loss to Corinthians. Coming on in the 74th minute, he managed to grab his first assist for the club. Already capped by the Selección, performances like this could help him sneak back into contention for the upcoming World Cup qualifying matches.
Camilo Vargas
Although Vargas conceded four goals in Atlas’ 4-2 home defeat, he still made history. His penalty save in the match gave him the record as the foreign goalkeeper with the most penalty saves in Liga MX history — now sitting at 15. Not the result Atlas wanted, but a remarkable personal milestone for Vargas.
Juan Otero
At 30 years old, Otero might not be one of the most widely recognized Colombian players, but his career has taken him across several leagues, including Ligue 1 with Angers. Now with Sporting Gijón, he proved decisive this weekend, registering the assist in their 1-0 away win over AD Ceuta. A valuable contribution from the experienced winger.
Pedro Bravo
Still only 20 years old, Pedro Bravo is a name to watch. The young Colombian midfielder had an excellent week with FC Midtjylland, who earned two impressive home wins: a 4-0 victory in the first leg of the final Europa League qualification round, and a 4-2 win against Silkeborg in the Danish league. Bravo played very well in both matches, and with Midtjylland practically through to the Europa League group stage, we’ll be hearing his name more often. If he keeps this up, a Colombia call-up might not be far away.
Mateo Cassierra
Cassierra didn’t feature in the league match alongside Wilmar Barrios, but he did play in Zenit’s 5-3 away cup win over Orenburg. The striker got on the scoresheet, calmly converting a penalty to help Zenit advance. While not a headline-grabbing performance, it was another reminder of his reliability in front of goal.
