FIFA Rankings July 2025: Canada Makes History, Colombia maintains spot
The new FIFA rankings were released on July 10, 2025, following the international break in June and the conclusion of a major international tournament — the Gold Cup. With both national teams earning decent results, we’ve seen some interesting movement (or lack thereof) in the rankings.
Canada – 28
Canada has once again broken its own record, reaching 28th in the world — their best-ever ranking. Previously, they sat at 30th in April 2025.
They had a strong showing in June, going 3-3-0 across friendlies and Gold Cup fixtures:
- ✅ Win vs Ukraine (4–2)
- 🤝 Tie vs Ivory Coast (0–0)
- ✅ Win vs Honduras (6–0)
- 🤝 Tie vs Curaçao (1–1)
- ✅ Win vs El Salvador (2–0)
- 🤝 Tie vs Guatemala (1–1; lost 6–5 on penalties)

Overall, it’s been a very positive stretch for Canada. They’ve beaten some strong opponents and have looked solid defensively — conceding just 4 goals across 6 matches. Since Jesse Marsch took charge, they’ve only lost four times: against the Netherlands, Argentina (twice), and Mexico. Managing to rise 22 spots since February of 2024.
Personally, I think Canada deserves an even higher ranking. Teams like Ukraine and the USA are currently ranked above them, yet Canada has consistently gotten the better of both in recent years.
Colombia – 14
Colombia holds firm at 14th, the same position they reached in April 2025. That keeps them inside the top 15 globally — a respectable spot despite recent ups and downs.
Their June was a mixed bag:
- 🤝 Tie vs Peru (0–0, home)
- 🤝 Tie vs Argentina (1–1, away)
The Peru result was disappointing, especially knowing how critical those three points could’ve been. Colombia dominated but lacked creativity and final product. Honestly, I don’t think home-field advantage means as much anymore — most of the squad isn’t used to the climate either (but that’s a discussion for another day — feel free to drop your thoughts in the comments).
The draw in Argentina, on the other hand, was fantastic. Colombia played like protagonists on the road and nearly pulled off a big win, only for Argentina to equalize late.
While it’s true Colombia has been trending downward since being at 9th in July 2024, there’s still a lot of optimism. The team has shown promise lately and remains one of the top 15 teams in the world.
