Does Cucho Hernández Hate His Teammate?
The match between Real Betis and Como on August 6, 2025, was supposed to be just another routine preseason friendly. But things took an unexpected turn.

The game ended in a 3-2 win for Como, but the biggest talking point wasn’t the scoreline — it was the chaos that broke out on the pitch. Tensions boiled over after a heated altercation between Pablo Fornals and Maximo Perrone, which began with both players slapping each other across the face. The situation escalated quickly, with players and staff rushing in to separate them.
In the middle of the chaos, Cucho Hernández got involved — and in an attempt to help calm things down or support his teammates, he ended up accidentally punching one of his own teammates. While it’s clear his intention wasn’t malicious, the execution went completely wrong. From an outside perspective, the moment was wild and, admittedly, entertaining. But violence of this level — especially in a friendly match — shouldn’t be condoned.
Real Betis’ Preseason So Far
This was Real Betis’ fourth preseason match, and results have been all over the place:
- They started with a 4–3 win over Córdoba (LaLiga 2), where Cucho Hernández scored.
- Followed by a 1–1 draw against Coventry, and a 1–0 win over Sunderland.
- And now, a 3–2 loss to Como.
Although the preseason hasn’t been ideal, Betis will be hoping to step things up once the real competition begins. They finished 6th in La Liga last season, made it all the way to the Conference League final, and have now qualified for the UEFA Europa League for this upcoming season.
With European football on the schedule, there will be plenty of matches across multiple competitions — meaning more opportunities for players like Cucho Hernández and Nelson Deossa to prove themselves.
Cucho, who joined late last season and finished with 5 goals and 1 assist in 15 appearances, now has a full campaign ahead of him. If he can bring the same magic he showed in MLS, he could become a consistent goal threat in La Liga.
As for Nelson Deossa, while he didn’t feature in this game, his creativity, versatility, and passing/shooting range make him an exciting option. With the Europa League, Copa del Rey, and La Liga to juggle, his moment could come sooner than expected.
What’s Next for Betis?
Betis has one final preseason match on August 9 against Málaga. Hopefully, they can end preseason on a positive note and fix the issues that surfaced in these early games.
Their LaLiga season kicks off on August 18, with an away game against Elche. As a fan, there’s a lot to be excited about — especially with Colombian players like Cucho and Deossa in the mix. If things click, this could be a big season for both of them.
What Do You Think?
Do you think Cucho hates Nathan? Should he stick to soccer instead of throwing hands?
